郭城博士多年來聚焦病原組學檢測技術的創新,以及其在新發和不明原因感染性疾病研究中的應用,包括:①發明病原捕獲測序和高通量血清學檢測技術,利用創新的探針設計、樣本處理體系和生信分析流程,使新方法的靈敏度較傳統方法提升近千倍;②在臨床或自然場景中開展新發傳染病的檢測和風險預警研究,助力公共衛生政策的調整;③鑒定以慢性疲勞綜合征為代表的不明原因感染性疾病的腸道細菌生物标志物,揭示了丁酸鹽産生菌在疾病進展中的作用。近年來在Cell Host Microbe,Lancet Gastroenterol等雜志發表論文40餘篇,被引用3500餘次,獲批多項與病原檢測相關的美國發明專利。相關科研成果曾被國家新冠防控指南引用、以及時代雜志、紐約日報、财新新聞等100多家新聞媒體報道。
